Wenige Tage nach dem Auftritt beim Berlin Festival (bei Arte Concert anschauen) ist Crystal Fighters Drummer Andrea Marongiu gestern Nacht überraschend gestorben. Die Nachricht ist nicht offiziell bestätigt. Sie verbreitet sich aber seit dem Nachmittag rasend schnell auf Twitter und Facebook, wo Freunde und Wegbegleiter den Verlust beklagen.
[Edit 20:35 Uhr: Mittlerweile haben die Crystal Fighters den Tod Marongius bestätigt.

Andrea Marongiu stiess 2010 zu der in London ansässigen englisch-baskischen Electronic-Band. Er arbeitete parallel aber auch als Sessiondrummer mit anderen Musikern und Produzenten aus den Bereichen Jazz, Rock und R&B zusammen.
Mit 11 Jahren begann der in Italien geboren Marongiu sich selbst das Trommeln beizubringen. Sein plötzlicher Tod setzt seinem 2008 mit dem Umzug nach London begonnenen, kontinuierlichen Aufstieg ein jähes Ende.
Die Welle in Bewegung gebracht hatte die kurzfristige Absage der Crystal Fighters beim Solar Fest auf Mallorca. Vor 5 Stunden strich das Festival den Headliner des Abends aus dem Programm, nannte aber wohl auch aus Pietätsgründen nicht das wahren Motiv: Unvorhersehbare Umstände seien Schuld, so die Pressemeldung.
Gestern noch hatte sich Andrea Marongiu per Twitter an seine Follower gewandt und über sein Älterwerden gescherzt.
